How Precious are Your Thoughts

The "Incident"

I realised that I have kinda taken medical help for granted. Ben's accident at frisbee yesterday was an example. I saw him run for the frisbee, slip, and fall with 2 loud thuds. And I saw him grimacing in pain, and I saw the fractured ankle. And I was really stumped, not knowing what to do!

Thank God for the many brave, informed souls there who immediately went about assessing his condition, calling the ambulance, helping him into a comfortable position, talking to him in a bid to distract him, feeding him water, wiping away his perspiration etc etc. Thanks to KL who rallied a few of us to pray. Special mention of Angie who had the guts to help loosen and remove Ben's soccer boot from his injured feet! I would not have been able to undertake such a tricky task. I felt more relieved only when the ambulance finally arrived and attended to Ben professionally.

I must say, Ben was really brave through it all. He could even joke and laugh while waiting for the paramedics to arrive. Unbelieveable! Answered prayers, I believe :)

We usually rise to the occasion when the circumstance calls for it. When Will asked to leave his car with me (since he was following in the ambulance), I agreed without any hesitation, something I wouldn't readily do normally... since #1 - I am quite unfamiliar with his car, #2 - I don't know the direction to the hospital, #3 - Never driven to CGH before. But yes, thank God for Grace who helped to navigate us through, and also for the rather comfortable and smooth drive. It was a pleasant drive. We arrived at the hospital safe and sound.

Thank God also that Ben is alright. Op was successful and he should be discharged soon.

This incident has taught me some things, besides the stuff about fractures, dislocations, ambulance etc.:
1) Thank God for the many concerned friends we have in Hope. Only realised this when Will, JH and I were sending out tons of smses to inform friends and ask them to pray. "Network" of support is pretty strong, thank God.
2) I was particularly encouraged by our frisbee friends who rallied around to show their support and concern too. Just today, Angie smsed me to convey her words of exhortation to Ben regarding God's healing. J and S are also upholding Ben in prayers. Wow, this is amazing as we've never really talked to each other about God.
3) Incidentally, my devotion today reminds me that " God can do all things; no plan of His can be thwarted. " Job 42:2. This is especially so, since the HCM had just been planning out our new strategies yesterday afternoon, and Ben is involved in this ministry. Although he may be injured, no scheme against God's plan can ever stand. Amen!

Inspiration @ Work

It’s amazing how some phrases which may sound cliché usually will make so much sense to you when you are desperate for some words of wisdom…
“The highest reward for a man’s toil is not what he gets for it, but what he becomes by it.” Ruskin

New Gadget

Ever since I put up my last entry, I’ve received some words of encouragement from various friends. I wanna say a big thank you to you guys for your care and concern…

On a separate note, I have been feasting quite a lot lately, with friends and family members. I am very touched by all the people around me who remembered and who celebrated the passing of yet another year of my life… Realised that as I grow older, I tend to go into a certain “denial” phase, not wanting to recall nor talk about my age. I had conveniently and honestly replied some friends that I am not tracking my age, 20 yrs old maybe?

This year, I decided to pamper myself, and splurge a little to get myself a Creative Zen Micro. Thought that it would be a good buy since I enjoy listening to music while commuting from place to place. This little gadget sure beats the Discman I lug around clumsily. Am quite pleased with this purchase and I will spend the next few weeks familiarizing with its functions.
